In 1940 he begins his studies at “La Llotja” School in Barcelona and various prívate academies.
He made his first visit to Paris in 1945.
1965 - 1972 He travelled through France painting in large format.
In 1979 Joan Capella obtain the prize "Issoudun" award in France and the silver medal at the III Salon de la Societé de Beaux Arts of Beziers
1992 – 1997 He illustrated various books of poetry

After his death, some books are publische such as "El dibuis i Joan Vapella" woth texts by, among others, José Correodor-Matheos, Josep Mª Cadena, Conxita Oliver and Ramón Casalé or "La Modernitat propera" texts by Alex Mitrani, José Corredor-Matheos or Josep Mª Cadena.
